Rogan criticized various news outlets and people online for focusing on Kimmel after his show was suspended indefinitely. According to the podcaster, almost no focus has been given to the United Kingdom and the censorship happening there.

The background: Kimmel’s show was suspended over comments he made on the show about Charlie Kirk and his alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson. After the backlash, ABC brought back the talkshow after several days off the air.

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, the government has begun to crackdown on freedom of speech, especially online. The government proposed a digital ID mandate that would destroy anonymity online. It has also arrested thousands for social media posts made.

What Rogan had to say: The podcaster said no one is focusing on this issue.

  • “The fact that our mainstream media is relatively silent on this is insane,” Rogan said. “You’re seeing a complete total attack on one of the most fundamental principles of the Western world, which is your ability to express yourself…”
  • “These people are not calling for violence,” Rogan added. “They’re being arrested for wild things. People are being arrested for liking posts. Some people were investigated for viewing posts. Twelve thousand people arrested by the police in the U.K., the same place that just implemented digital ID. I mean, this is an Orwell nightmare coming to life right in front of our face, and no one’s flinching.”

According to Rogan, the issue in the UK is a bigger assault on the ideals of free speech than what has happened with Kimmel. He also believes it should be getting attention.

“No one in America is freaking out about what’s happening in the UK at all. I mean, you get people online that are kind of freaked out by it, but they’re way more freaked out by nonsensical things like whether or not what Jimmy Kimmel said in his monologue was offensive,” he said.

We’ll see what comes of the situation as it evolves.
