Weighing In: Nobel Committee Chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes weighed in on the decision to not present Trump with the Nobel Peace Prize. The decision had been made days before Trump help negotiate a ceasefire peace deal with Israel and Gaza.

However, Frydnes said that they wouldn’t have presented Trump with the award even if that was taken into consideration. Although he didn’t out and out criticize the president, he implied that Trump didn’t live up to the Nobel values.

  • “In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen many types of campaign, media attention,” Frydnes said. “We receive thousands and thousands of letters every year of people wanting to say what, for them, leads to peace.
  • “This committee sits in a room filled with the portraits of all laureates and that room is filled with both courage and integrity. So we base only our decision on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel,” he added.

Support For Trump: This comes as a dismay to Trump’s many supporters. Many made a last minute campaign for Nobel to award the president due to the peace deal.

Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu believed that Trump is worthy of the award: “Give @realDonaldTrump the Nobel Peace Prize – he deserves it!”

Ultimately, the Nobel Peace Prize went to Venezuela opposition leader María Corina Machado. On X, she dedicated the win to Trump.

  • She wrote, “This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom. We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy. I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!”
