What happened: Working as a DJ is always going to come along with some annoying customers. There is the person who thinks their playlist is better than the DJs. There are the drunk song requestors. The lurker who hangs over the shoulder, shouting about how “they were a DJ in college.” It can get exhausting.
- A wedding DJ has the worst of it. They have to put up with a varied and almost always drunk crowd, and they’ll be getting requests left, right, and center. Also, they’re a wedding DJ, it’s hardly the height of cool.
For one in particular, the crowd just got too much to bear. A post on Reddit has regaled the internet with the story of a wedding DJ who walked out mid-show, never to be seen again.
Drop The Mic
The wedding was well underway, and the DJ was spinning some tracks. The crowd was having a good time, for the most part. But it only takes one bad apple. A drunken uncle, unable to stomach all this newfangled music, was harassing the wedding DJ.
- “From what I gathered, the groom’s uncle kept harassing him about playing ‘real music’ (aka old country songs no one else wanted),” the post stated.
So, the DJ, who clearly couldn’t be bothered to listen to the beligerant old man, simply packed his stuff up and left. The wedding was left without music, and a shamefaced country fan. But the party needed to go on.
Pass the Aux: Thankfully, most wedding DJs can be replaced by a single AUX cable and a Spotify playlist. That’s precisely what the maid of honor did. But the musical woes weren’t over. It seems that the country music uncle wasn’t the only trouble-causer in the crowd.
- “Big mistake. Somehow, a breakup song tied to the groom’s ex ended up blasting through the hall. Bride stormed out crying, groom followed, and the family immediately split into two camps: Team DJ was right vs Team unprofessional.”
