It appears a local boozer at a Nottingham bar has been reincarnated as a cat, and is taking back his barstool.

Many pubs and bars have a local cat. They’re good for keeping cellar rats at bay, and usually fit right in with the boozy aesthetic. However, typically, they’re owned by the landlords. In this case, Pebbles the cat had trekked 30 miles from home to frequent its favorite bar twice.

Puss Popped In For A Pint: The Vat and Fiddle tap room in Nottingham, UK, was delighted when Pebbles the cat showed up at the bar. It took its place among the patrons and made itself comfortable. Within minutes, it was lounging in the sun or people watching out the front. It quickly became a local.

  • “Here is our new furry friend that has been visiting the pub in the past few weeks. Why don’t you come in and see if you can spot her about the pub?!” they posted to social media, along with a few pictures.

The locals loved their new bar cat, and he quickly gained a nickname. He was called Screech by the patrons due to his scratchy yowl. But the pub knew that the cat didn’t belong to them, so they reached out on social media to try to locate the cat’s owners.

Chipped Kitty

Nothing came of their online plea, and it was no surprise. Eventually, the bar took their new cat to the vet, where they scanned its chip. All the info of the owners popped up, and they were shocked to see that the cat had travelled more than 30 miles to the bar.

  • The cat’s owners were contacted, and Peanut was reunited. The owners said they feared the worst, thinking he may have died. They were relieved to find that instead, he was just having a couple of pints over 30 miles away.

Another Round: Peanuts has an insatiable thirst. Only a few days after being returned, the cat made the 30-mile hike to its favorite bar. The staff, delighted and surprised, had to make a call to his owners. Again, the boosy cat had turned up at their door.

At this point, I think they should just let him live the life he likes.
