Her husband, Elvis, was already one of the biggest names in modern music. Priscilla knew that her daughter would be the eternal object of male attention. She was used to fielding requests and advances from fame and fortune hopefuls. But Michael Jackson was a whole new kettle of fish.
He’s Bad: Priscilla Presley, in her upcoming memoir, has attacked the name of Michael Jackson posthumously. In particular, she has spoken about his relationship with her and Elvis’s daughter. She clearly didn’t approve of the match and has said as much.
- In her opinion, Michael Jackson wasn’t interested in Lisa Marie; he was interested in the joining of two empires. Jackson saw the opportunity to combine their wealth and took it. “I knew in my bones that Michael wasn’t marrying Lisa Marie; he was marrying the Presley dynasty,” she claims. “Michael was a manipulative man, and I think he had his sights set on her long before she realized it.”
Doomed to Fail
There was a ten-year age gap between Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson. The two were married when Jackson was 35 and she was 26. The age gap, for Priscilla, was another point of contention. She believed that his youthful persona was all an act.
- “The childlike innocence he projected was part of his public mask,” Priscilla said in her memoir.
But their marriage wasn’t destined to be until death they parted. In only two years, they were divorced. It wasn’t enough time for them to have a child, although it seemed, according to Lisa Marie, that he was pretty keen to give it a good go, even before they were married.
- “When he decided to first kiss me, he just did it. He was instigating everything. The physical stuff started happening, which I was shocked at. I had thought that maybe we wouldn’t do anything until we got married, but he said, ‘I’m not waiting!”
Priscilla Presley certainly wasn’t happy with her daughter marrying Michael Jackson, but how do you say no to the king of pop?
