It’s wild to look back at some of the stars and realise just how young they were when they got their break. To be thrown in front of the spotlight at such a tender age must be unfathomably complex for a developing mind. And yet, many of them survive the ordeal and ride the fame train all the way to their older years.
Jodie Foster was already being asked to host SNL at 14 years old, making her the youngest at the time. She doesn’t look back on it particularly fondly.
Sticky Situation: Jodie Foster appeared on SNL just after her 14th birthday in November of 1976. But just before she was due to perform on national TV, she had a little accident.
- “My bad memory of that is that right before I went on, like maybe a half an hour before I went on, I had what was called an Orange Julius,” she shared with Entertainment Weekly. “I had a big Orange Julius and it fell all over my pants. And they were like, ‘Well, we don’t have time to [change],’ so, the whole [monologue], I was sticky.”
At the age of 62, Jodie Foster has had an illustrious career. But she’s never graced the stages of SNL since. “I may have been asked, but I’ve never done it again,” she said. Asked if she would return, she said, “I don’t know. Probably not.”
A Life in The Limelight
Jodie Foster flew to fame in the hit film Taxi Driver by Scorsese. She had some minor feature roles before this, but the role in the gritty New York thriller put her on the scene. From there, her career went from success to success.
Since her appearance in Taxi Driver, Jodie Foster became somewhat of a household name. Her roles in classic movies like The Silence of the Lambs and Freaky Friday solidified her place in Hollywood.
Despite such a young career in Hollywood, including a 14-year-old appearance on SNL, Jodie Foster has kept it on the straight and narrow for the most part. Unlike many young people shot to fame before they’re grown, she’s taken her success and run with it.
