What happened: According to a report by CBS News, the incident occurred on Sunday in the 12700 block of North Saginaw Boulevard in Tarrant County at around 1:30 PM.
- The NTSB identified the aircraft as a Beechcraft King Air C90. Fort Worth Fire Department told the outlet the aircraft took off from Alliance Airport, although they couldn’t say where it was going.
- Per WFAA, the aircraft nosedived and crashed into 18-wheelers and their trailers in a parking lot. The impact triggered an explosion in an industrial park. Many details about the crash remain unclear, and the outlet explains that authorities have not released the victim’s identities.
- WFAA also revealed footage of the area moments before the impact. The aircraft crashed into several parked trucks, and witnesses could reportedly see black smoke from miles away. At least 10 trucks were damaged in the fire, which also set the grass ablaze.
- CBS Texas explains that the fire department arrived at the scene within five minutes. They also confirmed that both victims were on the plane.
The Plane Was “Completely Engulfed” In Flames After The Impact
Intense heat: Gregory Delano, a witness, told CBS that he ran to the crash, but could not get to the aircraft owing to the flames.
- “Ran around the corner and just seen a giant ball of fire and smoke,” he said. “Trying to see if there was an access point, maybe a cockpit that I could see, or anything that would bring me to anybody that was inside of it. But, it was completely engulfed.”
- Another witness, Theresa Brown, noted the black smoke, but said the worst part was the heat of the fire. “You could just feel how intense it was. It was so bad,” she exclaimed.
Another small plane crash: The incident in Tarrant County comes just weeks after another small plane crash at David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport in Spring.
- The aircraft reportedly took off from the airport, but quickly experienced a mechanical issue. Investigators believe the pilot tried to turn back to land, but missed the runway. Both the pilot and passenger were fatally injured in the crash, and the impact ignited bush fires.
- The NTSB is investigating the incident.
