What happened: According to a report by Click2Houston, a METROlift vehicle overturned on Monday morning. METRO officials said their driver attempted to avoid a stalled car on the North Sam Houston Parkway feeder road near Veterans Memorial Drive.
- A news release by Mark Herman at the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 revealed several pictures of a “serious crash” in the area. Authorities advised motorists to avoid the area owing to heavy emergency service presence. The post also shows images of the damaged sedan, which appears to have been struck by the rear right passenger door.
- Click2Houston notes that the bus operator and one passenger escaped the overturned vehicle. Emergency services transported them to a local hospital, where medical staff are treating them for non-life-threatening injuries.
- The driver of the stalled sedan suffered a leg injury, which authorities have also described as non-life-threatening. They are also being treated at a hospital.
The METRO Vehicle Reportedly Overturned While Swerving
According to a report by the Houston Chronicle, the METRO vehicle was an ADA-accessible Metro van.
- The outlet cites Kaila Contreras-Aradillas, a Metro media specialist, who reportedly said the METRO vehicle swerved and lost control, ultimately landing on its side.
Another highway incident: Last month, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department posted a news release about a man who allegedly stole a Chrysler sedan. He fled from the police while the vehicle’s owner’s children were still strapped in the back seat.
- Authorities explain that the driver, a mother of three, left the engine running while she entered a convenience store. The children were reportedly 8, 6, and 2 years old. A man approached the vehicle and hopped in the driver’s seat.
- Police say the children’s father tried to stop the vehicle, but was dragged a short way down the road instead. He suffered injuries to his upper body.
- Authorities gave chase, and the suspect crashed into another vehicle at a junction. He tried to escape on foot, but officers caught him in a nearby residential area.
- Emergency services transported the children to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver involved in the crash at the junction also required treatment.
