Just because you’re almost a centaurian doesn’t mean you can’t hit the gym 5 days a week, according to this 93-year-old woman.

Keeping up with a 9-5, maintaining a social life, and the general demands of life for an average 30+ person takes a lot of time. It’s understandable that, even with full dedication, missing a day or two in the gym is going to happen. But, when you reach 93, you no longer have to work, most of your friends are dead, and Meals on Wheels brings you all the protein-enriched macro-hitting food you could want. It’s time to hit the gym and get shredded.
Retired and Ripped: 93-year-old Elaina Gonzalez still shows up to her gym five times a week. The Twin Cities local keeps herself in shape with regular yoga workouts at her local spot. She might not be benching pounds, but she’s still staying flexible.
- According to Gonzalez, her regular gym classes are what have kept her alive so long. The physical demands of yoga are considerable, but she still manages it almost every day. “I can do it on the floor. Getting down is no problem, but getting up is a son of a gun,” she explained. To assist her with yoga, the 93-year-old uses a chair provided by the gym.
Seniors Staying Active
But, for Gonzales, it’s more than just going to the gym 5 times a week at the age of 93 years old. She also stays active in other ways. It’s the small things that keep her heart healthy and her muscles limber. She will often choose to use the stairs over the elevator to get home, adding another excuse for exercise to her daily routine.
- “It’s not that I don’t take the elevator occasionally, some days I do, but that extra little bit is like calories. A little bite here, a little bite there, but eventually it all adds up,” she told CBS.
It’s easy to slip into bad physical habits, letting our bodies become weak and soft. It might not seem like too much of a problem at the time. But, leave it too long and we end up unable to undo the damage done.
It’s key to stay active and make those little physical efforts. It’s unusual to see a 93-year-old using the gym 5 days a week, but it’s good to know that it’s possible.
