According to a report by FOX 8, the fight erupted on an Orleans Parish school bus on August 21. The bus monitor, Tamika Jackson, reportedly sustained multiple injuries, including bite marks. Johnny Jackson, Tamika’s husband, claims the altercation started when his wife told a student she could not sit at the back of the bus.
Johnny told FOX 8, “For the previous week and a half, a lot of the students have been going to the back rows of the bus. My wife suspected that they may be doing some lewd acts to the back of the bus. So, she told the students that you can’t go back there.” One student allegedly called her mom, who got on the bus further down the route.
The outlet shared footage of the fight captured inside the vehicle.
The video appears to show two people relentlessly attacking the bus monitor. They force her into a seat while one person rains punches onto the worker’s head. “The mother now then just reaches out and hits her in the face. And then, the assault occurs, and the daughter joins the fray,” Johnny explains.
The Bus Monitor’s Husband Reveals The Extent Of His Wife’s Injuries
Johnny detailed his wife’s injuries to FOX 8. “They pulled her hair out. They bit her on her face, on her lips, on her thumbs. Scratched her face, she has a large gash running across her face,” the husband said. “I have photos to prove this evidence,” he added.
Per KPEL, the bus driver reportedly exclaims, “I can’t touch her,” during the video. The outlet notes that the driver may risk legal or employment consequences if they get involved.
Despite his wife’s injuries, Johnny told FOX8 he is unhappy with the police response. He claims the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) issued his wife a Municipal Court summons for disturbing the peace. “This was a statement provided to me by not only the officers that were on site,” Johnny said. “The captain came out as well and told me the same thing: That, until they get video footage, they have to treat this as a routine fight.”
He blasted the situation as “egregious,” adding, “There’s no words to describe how ridiculous that was.” Per FOX8, the NOPD said it has no police records of the incident. InspireNOLA Charter Schools, which governs seven establishments, including McDonogh 35, said it was investigating.
