The Details: The Child Care Plus Learning Center in Coventry, RI, is situated near a main road. While it had seemingly not been an issue in the past, it was on Monday.
- A white Nissan hit the fence at the daycare center at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time, according to People Magazine.
- Central Coventry Fire Chief Kevin Cady spoke with People Magazine and confirmed that all children were taken inside after the accident.
- All those who were injured were taken to the hospital for care and suffered “non-life-threatening injuries.”
Car Crashes Into Daycare
WPRI reported that there were 15 children playing on the playground at the time of the incident. Of those 15, five were rushed to the hospital for the injuries they sustained. Charles Psilopoulos, who co-owns the center, spoke to the outlet about the accident.
Psilopoulos confirmed that the driver was an employee of the daycare. Additionally, he shared that she had her two children in the car at the time of the incident. Neither she nor her children seemed to have suffered any injuries.
- “It appears to be an accident only,” Cady told People Magazine. “Possibly caused by a distraction.”
Very Cooperative: The woman behind the wheel has been very cooperative with law enforcement. Fortunately, she did not appear to be under the influence at the time. The majority of children who were injured suffered only minor scrapes and bruising. All things considered, the results could have been far more deadly.
Child Care Plus Learning Center shared with WPRI that it planned to open normally on Tuesday, September 30, but that the playground would be closed until it could be repaired.
