The Details: Hundreds of bikers decided to share their support for Det. Mark Garrett as they rode by his funeral.

  • WYFF shared that the funeral was hosted in NewSpring Church in Anderson.
  • The streets were lined with supporters of the late detective.
  • Additionally, the streets were full of hundreds of bikers riding in his honor.

Why Did Hundreds Of Bikers Honor The Late Detective?

When asked about the massive procession, the response was straightforward. Jason Welliver, one of the bikers and Garrett’s friends, had this to say.

  • “He was a cop, but he was a biker. I mean, there’s no other way to look at it. Honest to God, I mean, he would walk up and give you a hug.”

Being a biker and a good human being was enough to garner this level of support. The new outlet also spoke with Jim Dennis, another one of the bikers. While Dennis didn’t know Garrett personally, he still felt compelled to come out and support.

He claimed that after he heard of the impact Garrett left on so many lives, it felt like the right thing to do. He also admitted that he was surprised at the sheer size of the procession for the detective.

  • The biker argued it was the largest procession he had ever ridden in.
  • “It was a good one,” he argued. “It was very big, I’d say at least a mile or more of two rows of motorcycles, and the whole procession must’ve been a couple of miles long. “

Add that to his friends and family, as well as the procession of fire trucks and police vehicles, and I would argue that Detective Mark Garrett left quite the impact.
