The Details: Forecasts indicate that meteorologists expect the storm to be classified as a nor’easter.

  • The National Weather Service shares that a nor’easter is “a storm along the East Coast of North America, so called because the winds over the coastal area are typically from the northeast.”
  • In the past, these storms have caused serious damage. Some of that damage includes ” billions of dollars in damage, severe economic, transportation, and human disruption, and in some cases, disastrous coastal flooding.”
  • The storm coming now is a few days out, but is expected to strike the East Coast with high winds and heavy rain.

FOX Weather hurricane specialist Bryan Norcross spoke about the incoming nor’easter on Tuesday. He argued that the high winds could have the most considerable impact on people.

  • “Very often, as we’ve seen, it’s those persistent winds that don’t allow essentially the high tide to come completely out,” he said. “That’s when we get the coastal problems.”

Additionally, Norcross argued that the Outer Banks is a particularly vulnerable spot for this storm, as well as I-95, which could experience some flooding due to the expected heavy rain. Furthermore, he argues that “heavy rain will create a flash flooding threat for the Carolinas and parts of Virginia this weekend.”

These high winds and heavy rain are expected to continue for several days along the East Coast.
