According to the report, the whole incident was over a simple ‘door ding.’ Quenton M. Brown, 57, father of NBA player Jaylen Brown, had just driven his car into a parking lot in All American Park on Buffalo Drive near Charleston Boulevard. Witnesses say the man pulled his SUV up beside another parked car before opening the passenger side door into the parked car.
The man in the SUV was allegedly immediately confrontational. The victim in the parked car got out to check the damage. Then the NBA star’s father squared up to him. The girlfriend of the victim said that the man told her boyfriend it was just a bump. He then started to cuss him out, pushing her boyfriend to slap the mirror of the man’s SUV.
The NBA Player’s father then asked the man if he “wanted to go,” to which her boyfriend responded in the affirmative. The incident in the parking lot took a very violent turn almost immediately. According to the report given by the girlfriend, the man “briskly walked after him while producing an unknown object from his right side.” He then “swung his arm in a straight stabbing motion and struck [the boyfriend] in his back.”
The boyfriend tried to fight back, but he received numerous more blows to the stomach before running back to his car.
Bloody Aftermath
The wounded man and his girlfriend drove to a pharmacy where they awaited an ambulance. The report states that he had received multiple wounds from the NBA player’s father. He suffered stab wounds to his back, upper right clavicle area, and left hand. Plus a broken right rib that might need surgery. The report described his condition as critical.
Police went on the hunt for a man fitting the description of the attacker and his vehicle. Eventually, they pulled over Jaylen Brown’s father in his car. “He spontaneously uttered that this was all over a door ding without being asked any questions by Patrol officers,” the police report stated.
He was found with abrasions on his knees and was bleeding from his face. His clothes were also covered in blood, but the knife couldn’t be found. He is being held on suspicion of attempted murder. Bail has been set at $300K.
