While driving through the Pacific Highway, 76-year-old Gene Simmons fell asleep or passed out at the wheel of his SUV. As a result, he plowed into the back of another parked car. Thankfully, there was nobody in the other vehicle, and Gene Simmons was the only one hospitalized in the car crash.
Sleepy Gene: According to NBC LA, Gene Simmons had passed out behind the wheel at the time of the car crash. Speaking to emergency services that arrived at the scene, he explained that he had lost consciousness. He was hospitalized for minor injuries and is being taken care of at home by his wife.
His wife, Shannon Tweed, told the outlet that he has recently changed medication. She also said that he’s not very good at drinking water. Both of these things could be attributed to how the 76-year-old Kiss frontman ended up wrecking.
Ageing Rocker
Gene Simmons is no longer the energetic rocker he once was. He’s getting on a little, and his years of crazy rock and roll lifestyle have taken their toll. He’s in his mid-seventies now, and on numerous medications. Some of these can have an adverse effect on his energy levels.
It appears that a change in his usual medications has made him extra sleepy. It poses a serious risk to functionality, and as a result, he had passed out at the wheel of his SUV. Hopefully, in the future, he will either not drive after taking the medication or his doctors will find an alternative.
In this case, Gene Simmons was lucky his car crash only involved him and a parked car. In another case, it could have been into a sidewalk or into oncoming traffic. Hopefully, he will take this as a wake-up call and either use a driver or just avoid his car altogether.
I am sure his wife will be a lot more strict with his car use after this incident. She might not be able to make him drink his water, but she can hide his car keys.
