The high winds rushing in from the northeast of the US have caused multiple delays and cancellations. Many airports from Boston, all the way down to New York, have experienced severe delays and cancellation warnings.
Not A Good Day To Fly: The intense gusts have caused floods and storms across the region as the nor’easter pummels the airspace. One couple got swept up in the storm. They flew in a small plane, which resulted in a deadly crash onto a Massachusetts highway.
Small Plane Overcome By Nor’Easter
The small plane containing Thomas Perkins, 68, and his wife, 66-year-old Agatha Perkins, was found on Interstate 195 in Darmouth. The high winds had caused issues with the single-engine Socata TBM. As a result, the small plane made a crash landing on the Massachusetts highway, killing both on board.
Another unnamed person was also rushed to the ER. They had been driving on the I-195 when the small plane came down. They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. However, the husband and wife were pronounced dead on the scene.
- The state police made a statement about the small plane crash. “The plane may have been attempting to land at New Bedford Regional Airport. Although it does not appear that the pilot provided the airport with a flight plan or the number of souls aboard the aircraft.”
With such high winds in the area, even commercial planes are being delayed and carefully monitored. The small single-engine plane with one qualified pilot was no match for the nor’easter. According to the police report, the small plane burst into flames as soon as it crashed on the Massachusetts highway.
- “The aircraft went down on the grassy median near Exit 22 around 8:15 a.m. It erupted into flames and forced the closure of both sides of the highway for much of the day,” the statement added.
