We all know the saying “the house always wins,” and it’s worth remembering, as casinos wouldn’t be in business otherwise. However, one man from Indiana didn’t get the memo and got so lucky that even the casino wrote about it.

What happened: According to a news release by the FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan, a guest won a life-changing $1,376,465.30 playing blackjack.

  • The Casino explains that the winner, Anthony W, placed a $5 “progressive side bet” during blackjack when a mystery “must-hit progressive” was triggered. The outlet explains that several games at the casino allow the optional side bet, including Blackjack, Poker, and Roulette. The wager uses three virtual reels.
  • In Blackjack specifically, these “triggering events” occur when the dealer’s blackjack hand adds up to 16. Per Blackjack Apprenticeship, dealers must typically stand if their hand is 17 or higher, so 16 is the maximum amount where they must hit another card.

The Casino Revealed What The Winner Did After Becoming A Millionaire

A call home: FireKeepers Casino reveals that the first thing Anthony did when he won the grand prize was make a “heartwarming” call to his mom to share the good news.

  • Vice President of Gaming Operations at the casino stated, “Moments like this are why we design our tables and experiences to keep the energy high and the possibilities endless for every guest.”

Beating unbeatable odds: The Virginia lottery posted a news release last month, explaining that a woman had won a grand prize of over $800,000. However, the announcement was even more exceptional as it was the woman’s second jackpot.

  • The organization revealed that Etheridge won $25,000 from the lottery in her twenties. She’s now in her 60s, claiming her second grand prize forty years later.
  • Etheridge reportedly hit the jackpot on a “$100,000 A Year” scratchcard. She had to choose between collecting $100,000 annually for a decade or a lump sum. She went with the latter, securing $816,000 before taxes.
  • The lottery winner told officials she planned to purchase an “affordable Corvette” and add some rooms to her house. She also noted that the $25,000 she had previously won had secured her that property years ago.
