What happened: According to multiple outlets, including The Sun, the incident occurred off the coast of Zonguldak in Turkey on September 2. An expensive Yacht, named “Dolce Vento,” jetted off the coast into the water for its maiden voyage. Per the Financial Express, the boat was 85 feet long and cost an eye-watering $940,000.

  • It appears that spending that sort of money doesn’t guarantee that your yacht will float. Shortly after hitting the water, the vessel started to tip over, and the situation only worsened.

Instagram user shipspotter_hayriyay posted dramatic footage of the Dolce Vento sinking.

From bad to worse: The vessel seems to hit the water without a hitch, although it quickly starts tipping. Moments later, the yacht completely rolls onto its side.

  • The video cuts to footage of the boat upside down, almost completely submerged. A passenger wearing a life jacket stands on a small part of the yacht, still above the water. He jumps in as the boat continues to sink.

The Yacht Captain And Passengers Escaped Unharmed

A sad swim back to shore: The Sun reveals that the captain and two passengers were on the Dolce Vento at the time. The outlet points out that it took roughly 15 minutes for the vessel to sink, and the boat’s occupants escaped unharmed.

  • shipspotter_hayriyay claims the yacht reportedly suffered a stabilization issue and submerged to a depth of seven meters shortly after. The Sun reports that shipyard officials are investigating the incident. The outlet cites experts who believe “stability problems, caused by errors in calculating the boat’s metacentric height,” are to blame.

Another boat incident: A pontoon boat flipped over on a lake in Maine on August 30. Two passengers died in the incident, and another was critically injured.

  • Authorities explained that the bow of the boat started to go underwater. At the time, 50-year-old John Morris was driving the vessel and tried to correct the issue. However, it continued to go underwater and eventually flipped.
  • It reportedly took almost 45 minutes for emergency services to arrive, but bystanders, including a retired firefighter, rendered aid to the boat’s seven passengers.
  • What caused the incident remains unclear, but emergency services noted that nobody on board was wearing a life jacket. Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor.
