Memphis Teen Accused Of Attacking Mom With Stick And Trying To Throw Her From Balcony

Authorities have accused a 13-year-old of beating his mom with a stick and trying to push her over a balcony. The teen was reportedly in Juvenile Court over the weekend.

What happened: According to a report by WREG, officers with the Memphis Police Department responded to a call at the Cabana Circle Apartments on Saturday around 5:20 PM.

• A woman told officers her son assaulted her to the point where she had to defend herself with a knife. The outlet claims she told officers they got into an argument while she was cooking. The altercation escalated, and the 13-year-old reportedly pushed his mom onto the balcony and started hitting her.
• Per WREG, the teen briefly left the apartment before returning with a large stick and continuing to hit her. The woman reportedly told authorities her son then tried to throw her from the balcony. She admitted to attempting to retaliate with a knife, but the teen allegedly fled the scene when the police showed up.

A Witness Notified Authorities About The Incident

A one-sided fight: A Witness reportedly notified authorities about the fight and described the incident as “one-sided,” per Action News 5. Authorities issued an alert while they attempted to locate the 13-year-old. They found him hours later, and officers reportedly said his friends tried to cover for him.

• The police report allegedly states, “The victim was forced to defend herself or be seriously injured or potentially killed.” The mom suffered “deep bruises” and a laceration to her shoulder. She reportedly declined hospital treatment, saying she had to take care of her other kids.
• Per Action News 5, authorities checked the 13-year-old for injuries before transporting him to the juvenile detention center. He faces a charge of simple domestic violence.

Another teen arrest: Earlier this month, authorities arrested a 19-year-old who allegedly hit his 17-year-old brother with his car. The Yuma Police Department said in a news release that the 17-year-old was in an altercation with a 36-year-old male at the time.

• Authorities believe the 19-year-old attempted to hit the 36-year-old with the car but hit his brother instead. He died from his injuries. Many details about the incident remain unclear, and no surveillance footage exists.
• Officers reportedly arrested the driver for DV 1st degree murder and 1st degree attempted murder.
