The mom, who goes by Beautihut on social media, shared her story on the platform last week. The video quickly garnered over 13 million views, and the cafe has reportedly contacted her since the incident.
Beautihut explains that she took her 3-year-old daughter and 76-year-old mom to Hazel Boutique for coffee and ice cream. Commenters quickly pointed out that the establishment was actually the Hazlenut Cafe in Ocean County, New Jersey. The mom explained that she heard a loud bang while she was paying and that her daughter managed to push a large, heavy table over. “It broke into a bunch of pieces. It was a stone table,” she clarified.
Beautihut said her mom and kid were both shocked, and she asked staff what she could do to rectify the situation.
The Embarrassed Mom Spoke To The Cafe Owner On The Phone
Staff at the cafe put the mom on the phone with the owner, who allegedly pointed out that the table was $1,600. The owner then said something which shocked her. Beautihut claims the owner told her she couldn’t leave without providing her license and credit card. The mom said she would leave her contact details, but wanted to leave ASAP to check on her child. Ultimately, she provided her email, phone numbers, and her husband’s info.
Despite giving her details, Beautihut claims, “I wasn’t allowed to leave.” Staff reportedly wouldn’t let the mom go without leaving a picture of her driver’s license or a credit card. “Our policy is if you break it, you pay for it,” the owner allegedly repeated.
The mom says the ordeal was embarrassing for everyone and even drove her mother to tears. She was saddened by the “mean girl” attitude and asked commenters if they’d ever experienced anything similar before. Thousands of commenters quickly leaped to the mom’s defense, pointing out that the establishment has since turned off their replies and deleted videos. Many TikTok users point out that the table was an accident waiting to happen if a three-year-old could damage it.
Beautihut posted a statement three days later, revealing that the owner had since reached out and apologized for their treatment. The mom explains that they have accepted the apology and are satisfied. “We want to move forward peacefully and do not wish to comment on this matter any further,” her post concludes.
