32-year-old Madia Kauser was walking with her child in Witton Park in Blackburn, England, when disaster struck. While walking beneath a tree, she noticed that a branch had come loose. She was horrified to see that it would come down on her daughter.
Using the instinct and self-sacrifice ingrained in mothers, she pushed her daughter out of the way. But, in the process, she put her body on the line. The tree branch fell from the tree, hitting the mother instead, and killing her.
By the time the emergency services arrived at the park, it was already too late. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family Grieving After Loss of Mother And Wife
The tragic death of Madia has left her family shaken. She gave her life to save her daughter from the falling tree limb. “She was the most beautiful woman in the world, she did everything for our two children, she did everything she could for anyone, and would bring smiles whenever she entered the room,” her husband said in a release. “She was my comfort, my partner in life, and the love of my life. We have so many great memories, went through pain together, and started a family together.”
The council responsible for the park has expressed its sorrow at the tragic accident. They have taken action to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. The beech tree responsible for dropping its limb on the woman has been removed. They also intend to address other weak trees.
“There have been concerns about ash dieback disease and the number of dead trees in Witton Park and across the borough,” a local councilor told the BBC. “The council needs to make regular, thorough inspections of the trees in the park to ensure they are safe.”
The park is open once again with all cordons removed. But, for the family, the park will always be a place of painful memories.
