Every so often, a vehicle will roll off the production line with a serious problem that demands it be taken back for repair. This time, it’s classic American Ford trucks that are being recalled due to a major defect.

What is it: The defect that is demanding that Ford take back their truck is with the steering column. Due to an unusual manufacturing error, the upper shaft of the steering column could become detached. Obviously, this is something that cannot be ignored. It is a deadly issue, and could cause a devastating traffic accident.
Which Ford Trucks: If you’ve recently purchased a Ford truck, it’s imperative that you check for the defect and recall types. At present, they have announced that the F-250, F-350, and F-450 trucks, from model years 2020 through 2021, are affected.
- This comes to a total of around 115,000 Ford trucks that need to be recalled. Most of them will have been driven for years without the owners knowing the risk to life.
Faulty Ford
The recall won’t be announced to owners until October 5th. So, many drivers will still be in their vehicles until then.
Major recall: When the recall goes out, any Ford truck drivers affected by the defect will receive a full refund. They can bring their vehicle to a dealership, and the process will be underway. It’s a good day for anyone whose truck hasn’t already been totaled. It’s basically a trade-in for a newer model.
The Ford truck used to be the pinnacle of American truck engineering. Even today, some of the original F-150s can be seen rolling around the streets. They have been a staple of US farmwork for generations. However, of late, their quality has been slipping somewhat.
- This isn’t the first recall they have made, and not even the first this year. In August, another recall was made on Ford trucks due to another serious issue in manufacturing. Almost half a million were taken back due to an issue with the dashboard display.
It’s a shame to see the famed Ford fall from grace. But, there are various elements at play, such as cheaper materials being used, a reliance on non-imported goods, and raised tariffs.
