Texas City Residents Fear For Their Children After Pack Of Wild Dogs Spotted Around School Times

Residents of a City in Texas are worried about the possibility of an animal attack after spotting a pack of wild dogs. The sightings are particularly alarming as they have occurred during the school runs in the morning and afternoon.

What happened: According to a report by NBC DFW, the pack’s behavior has only gotten bolder in recent weeks. Residents in the City of Godley told the outlet that the dogs started prowling at night. Now, they are confident enough to roam during the day.

• Homeowners in the area believe many dogs in the pack were abandoned. “Shame on those people who are dropping their dogs off.” one person said. “They are starving, our animals, our children are at risk. You shouldn’t have to put up a sign that says ‘don’t abandon your dogs.'”
• Unfortunately for local residents, there doesn’t seem to be a solution in sight. Johnson County Commissioner Rick Bailey reportedly told the outlet, “It’s a serious issue and it’s only going to get worse. It is troubling to see that. It is a great concern. But I don’t have a solution. Not an answer other than we are in dialogue with other cities in the county to see if there’s something we can do.”

City Leaders Were Reportedly Made Aware Of The Issue Months Ago

Failure to act: Per NBC DFW, Bruce Moats told the outlet that residents warned city leaders about the dogs months ago. He also claimed the pack can be up to 40 animals large.

• “At this point, we now have dogs, feral dogs, obviously sick, obviously having issues, trying to find food, that are out and about at the same time that my children and our children are on the streets,” Moats said. He reportedly told the outlet, “The dogs are going to look for food, and I don’t want my children to be that dog food.”
• Adding to the city’s woes, Commissioner Bailey told NBC DFW that authorities cannot legally round up the dogs. He noted that even if they could, there’s nowhere to house them as the local shelters are full.
• City Councilor Michael Matos intends to bring the issue up at the next council meeting.
