Texas Hospital Employee Fired After Recording Device Found In Bathroom: 3 Major Details From Case

Authorities are investigating an incident at a Texas medical center after an employee discovered a recording device in a bathroom.

What happened: The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) posted a news release about the incident on Facebook. They explain that an employee alerted Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center administrators about a recording device in the bathroom. Staff alerted the authorities on August 22 and handed the device over to law enforcement.

MCSO confirmed that “covert recording devices” were found at the hospital. Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are now involved in the investigation.

Authorities Are Searching The Premises For Other Similar Devices

Evidence of misconduct: According to Click2Houston, detectives confirmed the device was found in a unisex bathroom. Hospital officials reportedly said they are working with authorities to sweep the area and search for other cameras.

  • Per WoodlandsOnline, Lieutenant Scott Spencer revealed that investigators have found “more than one camera.” He noted that detectives are still combing through evidence, so authorities could not provide exact numbers.

The Hospital Has Fired An Employee In Connection With The Incident

The consequences: Multiple outlets, including the Houston Chronicle, have reported that the hospital has fired an employee concerning the hidden cameras. Hello Woodlands posted an update from MCSO, confirming that authorities have a person of interest.

  • The Sheriff’s office reportedly wrote, “We cannot release their identity at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation. We will release more information if an arrest is made in this investigation.”
  • MCSO confirmed that their priority is to identify and assist any victims. Detectives are also trying to determine the dates when the recordings took place. 

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center Has Released A Statement

Officials speak out: According to Click2Houston, Memorial Hermann addressed the situation in a statement.

  • “We are aware of deeply concerning information regarding unacceptable behavior by an employee at our Woodlands campus. The employee has been terminated,” the statement reads. “Upon discovery, we took swift action and engaged the appropriate authorities. Our System has zero tolerance for such conduct, and we take these matters very seriously. The safety and privacy of our workforce, patients and visitors are our top priority. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement’s investigation and cannot comment further at this time.”
