According to a news release by the Lake Worth Police Department, officers on a night shift noticed a car illegally stopped in a disabled parking space. Upon closer inspection, the officers discovered a man was sleeping inside the vehicle. Authorities reveal the man’s identity as 42-year-old Matthew Smith.
The officers quickly noticed the suspect had a methamphetamine pipe in his lap “in plain view.” Authorities then removed Smith from the vehicle to perform a more thorough search. Police found more incriminating evidence in the car, including a small pistol. The Lakeworth Police Department also shared a picture of the recovered items, which appears to show at least two bullets for the gun.
Police Officers Found Credit Cards In The Car
The news release also explains that authorities found “18 pieces of identifying information.” These items included credit cards, checks, and debit cards, “none of which belonged to him.” Officers contacted several of the items’ rightful owners. They also noted that some victims had previously reported documents stolen from their vehicles.
Authorities reveal that Smith has previous convictions. Officers arrested and charged him with Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. The police department also reminded readers to ensure they lock their vehicles to prevent burglaries. “Unsecured vehicles are the most common way criminals obtain weapons and personal information,” they said.
Last month, a woman got a nasty shock in a hospital car park in LA County. She stayed outside the Glendale Memorial Hospital for less than an hour. However, when she went to the ticket machine, it demanded she pay an extortionate fee of $7,829. Ultimately, the ticket was issued in error, saying the woman had left her car outside the hospital since July 2022.
The ticket machine owners blamed the issue on a computer glitch and are reportedly preparing to remove the device. While the woman is happy with the outcome, she wasn’t impressed with how long the issue took to fix.
