We all picture the way we want to go out, but there aren’t many of us who get that wish. But Matthew McConaughey says his dad got exactly what he asked for on his death.

In a bout of oversharing with an interviewer for The Guardian, McConaughey explained how his dad wanted to die. According to him, he hoped to leave this life making love to his wife. He managed to time it perfectly and passed away, post-coitus, at the age of 62 in 1992.
Talk about coming and going at the same time.
Blissful ignorance: Initially, McConaughey didn’t know how his dad had died. His mother simply told him that he had. But, eventually, she revealed that they had been at it just moments before he died. It must have been one hell of a session; his heart gave out.
- “When I got back, she told me. They hauled him out on the gurney, and they tried to cover him up, and my mom’s in the driveway, and she pulled the sheet off him,” McConaughey shared. “It was 7.30 am. My understanding is that they made love that morning about 6.30 am, and as soon as they finished having sex, he had a heart attack.”
Going Out With A Bang
McConaughey had no shame in sharing how his dad died. Apparently, it’s not the most unusual thing for his parents to have been up to. They were a fiery pair, according to him. He was quite happy to air all his family’s dirty laundry in the interview.
- It sounds like their parents had a wild time with one another. He recalls a time when his mother broke his father’s finger. “The same finger. The middle one each time. ‘Pop! Pop!! Pop!!! Pop!!!!’ He imitates her, poking his father’s head with maximum force. ‘Katie, stop! KATIE, STOP!’ Then he makes a crunching noise.”
It may have been an unusual and rather tumultuous upbringing for McConaughey, but it produced a rather unique actor. He goes into depth about his life and experiences in his new book, named Greenlights. Even more wild revelations lie within.
