For most of us, a simple “will you marry me?” somewhere romantic and personal will be enough. But those with the money, or desperation, like to do something slightly more extravagant. A man in Los Angeles pulled out all the stops.
Helicopter Proposal: It wasn’t enough for the, clearly very rich, man to just get down on one knee in a beautiful restaurant. The meal in question was at 71Above, a very fancy establishment offering unbeatable views across LA.
- He had even managed to book a window seat, offering a panoramic, nose-to-the-glass experience. Below the two lovers, the city glistened, lighting up the night like a bed of jewels. It would be hard to focus on anything but the view, but I have no doubt the menu in there lives up to the environment.
As they tucked into their delicious food, a helicopter started appearing from the right side of the window, and the man got down for his proposal.
Alarming Love
Initially, seeing the helicopter coming so close to the window with a huge flashing sign would have been a shock. But, as the woman, taken aback by the sight, read what it said, it all became clear. Reading the proposal message scrolling along the side of the helicopter, she understood why he had splashed out on such an extravagant date dinner.
- Twigging, the lady looked around to see her fiancé-hopeful down on one knee. With the backdrop of LA and the hard-to-miss helicopter, he popped the question. She could hardly say no with both the pilot, full restaurant, and the entirety of LA looking on.

I know that most people would be happy with something simple. But a proposal is always a pretty showy thing. Really, marriage is performative in almost all ways but tax and god if you’re that way inclined. You may as well start with a bang.
It’s just a shame he blew all his cash on the helicopter, restaurant, and proposal. She’s going to be getting married in rags.
