Officials speak out: Inside the stadium, it was a much more solemn affair, however. Frank Turek, a mentor to Charlie Kirk, described the final moments after Kirk was shot.
âWhen that shot rang out, I took a step toward him, but his security team was on him immediately. And so, Charlie, being like a son to me, I ran toward the security team and we ran to the SUV together,â Turek said.
âNo father would stand back and go, âNo, you just take my son, take him, Iâll meet you at the hospital.â I got into the back of the SUV, and let me tell you something, his team was amazing,â he also said.
Despite the tragedy, Turek praised all those involved for trying to save Charlie Kirk.
âI want you to know we did everything we could to save Charlie, but Charlie was already gone. His face was looking at mine, but he wasnât looking at me, he was looking past me right into eternity,â Turek said.
Remembering Charlie Kirk: Meanwhile, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna remembered Kirk as a voice that could awaken a generation. She praised his work in politics and on college campuses. That legacy continues despite his death.
She said, âCharlie poured out his youth, his energy and his unshakable resolve to awaken Americaâs youth from the slumber of complacency and to mobilize millions this past election cycle to reclaim the principles of truth and self-governance that define our exceptional nation,â she said.
