A local busybody with nothing better to do has caused quite the stir with Maryland residents, suggesting that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge might collapse.

Shared on Facebook, of course, was a picture of one of the Chesapeake Bay bridge supports looking a little out of line. The pilon, buried in the ground, supports the road above. However, the image captured by one resident, and shared by thousands, suggests it isn’t doing its job properly.
Structurally Unsound: The woman, who has absolutely no qualifications in engineering, by the way, decided that her assessment was important. Despite constant checks and a permanent maintenance team, she believed that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was about to collapse.
- Obviously, having posted it to Facebook, the crowds went wild. The minute anyone logs into that dusty old social media page, any modicum of common sense gets deleted. Hundreds of people commented, and thousands spread the word.
- “GTFOH š³ n we Rey go to O.C. š¤¦š¾āāļø Oh fukn joy,” one illiterate mouth breather shared. “Maybe if the governor and his administration werenāt overburdened with creating āGenderbreadmanā activity sheets they would have had someone on top of this already,” politically handicapped Ashley Stephens, CEO of Rebel Bro, spewed.
The Bridge is Still Bridging
Despite the online viral outcry about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, it’s not about to collapse. The offset is well within operational parameters, and it was actually built that way. With a structure such as a load-bearing bridge, there are huge allowances for shift. They are designed to stay standing even with considerable change.
Authority Speaks Out: The Maryland Transport Authority went to have a look at the bridge, to check they hadn’t missed anything. Speaking to NBC, they cleared up the panic.
- “MDTA inspected the pier and confirmed that there is no indication of movement or distress at the location. While the image of the pier cap appears off-center, the bridge girders ā the key structural components supporting the span ā are aligned and centered with the pier cap. Importantly, the positioning has not changed since the bridge’s construction.”
As usual, the busybodies on Facebook had nothing to worry about. But I am sure their hysterical posting gave their tiny brains something to do for a day or so.
