The Details: Megan Isherwood had no inkling that she was pregnant. So imagine her surprise when she was rushed to the hospital for a seemingly unrelated issue, only to end up giving birth.

  • The new mom told Southwest News Service. “I had no bump, no symptoms at all, he just came out of nowhere.”
  • Isherwood had called 911 after suffering severe pain on her right side and vomiting blood.
  • The NY Post shared that once paramedics arrived at the scene, they assumed Isherwood was suffering from appendicitis due to “the pain on the right side of her body as well as her high heart rate and nausea,” — no one assumed she was giving birth.

After her tentative appendicitis diagnosis, Isherwood was taken to her local hospital for further examination. It was there that things began to escalate. The Post shares that “blood began gushing out of her, soaking the bed.” Naturally, everyone was very alarmed at this. After all, this is not a typical symptom of appendicitis.

The doctors opted to do a CT scan and an ultrasound to rule out pregnancy. However, those tests ultimately proved unnecessary. As they were preparing for the test, the medical professionals found a head and a foot. The soon-to-be mother was immediately transported to a nearby hospital that had a midwifery.

Yet again, Ms. Isherwood’s day did not go as planned. She did not make it to the facility in time and instead gave birth in the back of the ambulance.

  • “I just needed to push,” she told the outlet. “The next thing you know, they told me ‘congratulations, it is a boy.’ I was so shocked and flustered, I couldn’t believe what had just happened.”
  • It turns out that the delivery was not the only surprising and stressful moment. Ms. Isherwood’s child came out blue and was no longer breathing.
  • Thankfully, medical personnel were able to resuscitate the infant, whose mother was later named Jaxson.

Both mother and son were suffering from sepsis. Fortunately, both made a full recovery and were able to return home together on September 25. Despite the shock of the whole experience, Isherwood has taken to being a mother quite well.

“He is a miracle,” she shared.
