A herd of elk, taking traffic matters into their own hooves, descended on a car at a stoplight, halting movement in both directions.

Elk are, for the most part, pretty docile creatures. And, like most wild animals, they have little to no regard for traffic laws. While in Estes Park in Denver, a resident had his car halted as a herd of elk surrounded his vehicle.
Seeing Elk Safely: Sitting safely in his car, the footage shows the driver marvelling at the whole herd of elk surrounding him. Casually strolling along, they are on every side. He’s unable to move until they make their merry way from one spot to the other.
It was certainly a good reason to be late for wherever he was going. Leaning on his horn would have spooked the animals, and although they’re not quite as big as moose, they could still do some damage. The last thing he would want is for his windows to be bashed in by a stampeding elk.
Just The Way of The Road
The park posted the video of the man trapped in traffic due to a herd of elk on the road. “Some places have stoplights. “
- “We have elk,” they began. “In Estes Park, you don’t just see nature—you live in it. One minute you’re heading to grab a snack, the next you’re surrounded by majestic locals who couldn’t care less about your to-do list. Only in Estes Park.”
For the folks in the car, they were able to enjoy the elk from close up, completely safe. Although they’re typically docile, they have been known to charge at people. Some of them have weighty horns that can do damage if pointed in the right direction.
Don’t Spook The Elk: So, the Estes Park crew actually suggests people watch the herd of elk from their vehicles. From inside, it’s possible to get super close and personal without spooking them or being in danger. That doesn’t mean, however, that people should start driving their cars through national parks like African safaris.
