What happened: At an intersection in Union City, NJ, a kid on a scooter ignored traffic signals and ran a red light. The oncoming car, which had the right of way, was luckily being driven by someone with quick reactions.
- The white truck, driven by an unidentified man, swerved around the kid on a scooter and hit another parked car.
Who was harmed: Thankfully, due to the quick reactions of the driver, the kid on the scooter was unharmed. The driver of the wrecked truck seemed unharmed, too. He climbed from his vehicle after swerving to avoid the scooter and gave the kid an earful.
- The only other car involved in the crash was parked. Nobody was inside it at the time of the wreck. The only real injuries are to the kid’s ego and the driver’s front fender.

The Dangers of Scooters
A company called Eridehero has conducted a study in the US to discover just how dangerous electric scooters are. As they have been rising to prominence in cities around the world, there has been a rise in accidents and even deaths.
Catastrophic for kids: The findings state that “The number of under-15s injured by electric scooters more than doubled to 17,641 in 2024.” It also claims that the large majority of people injured on scooters are under the age of 15. They make up a total of 23.24% of injuries.
Their findings also state that in 2024, the number of injuries sustained on e-scooters rose by a staggering 80%. But it’s easy to see why. The recent incident with the man wrecking his car to avoid the kid on the scooter shows how dangerous they are.
There is no need for a license, and they are often driven on public roads. Putting young and dumb kids on motorised, two-wheeled vehicles in the first place is a recipe for disaster.
