A bike path in Massachusetts has been the center of a political storm of late, as moggies battle to become the cat mayor of the small patch of land. Finally, the fight is over, and a champion has emerged.

The whole mayoral race began when Berry, a local cat that liked to hang out on the bike path, was made the unelected mayor. In the true spirit of democracy, more candidates came forward. Barry wasn’t the only feline citizen interested in a seat of power.

A Fierce Battle: Over the coming months, more and more campaign posters and boards would appear on the Massachusetts bike path. Each of them advertised a new cat for mayor. Every cat had a slogan and promises to keep. Berry was watching her once comfortable seat challenged.

  • The campaigns caught the eye of NBC10, and they made headlines. By the time it came to voting, there were more than 70 cats running for mayor. “Berry does have my endorsement as a proven leader defending our bike path values. I also admire her approach to rat control,” a local said of Berry.

Voting went underway, and people were given QR codes to pick their favorite. All sorts of slogans were used, such as “More Kibble for All,” and a fan favorite with just the word Crime. In some cases, people even submitted their dogs. But this was quickly dismissed by voters. Dogs have no place in politics.

A Clear Winner: In the end, the votes rolled in, and there was a clear winner. Minerva, a black fluffy cat, took the position of mayor in Somerville, Massachusetts, and will sit until the next election. She had a one-word campaign that really struck a chord: Crime.

  • “Minerva asked me to say one thing on her behalf and only one thing: Crime,” her owner said. “Minerva’s platform inspired someone to steal Minerva’s sign and also steal the QR code voting sign, right before the last day of the election,” a local added.
  • However, whether she is pro or anti-crime still stands to be seen. It could go either way with cats.
