What happened: According to The Standard, the incident occurred on September 21 on a flight from Vitoria to Palma de Mallorca. Per FlightAware, flight FR4615 took off as usual at 8:32 PM. However, the plane hit some turbulence before landing.

  • The Standard reports that the turbulence was so strong that it threw one flight attendant into the ceiling. A service trolley allegedly struck another crew member as they were pushing it on the plane.
  • Per local outlet Majorca Daily Bulletin, staff were completing cabin safety checks when the severe jolt occurred. The plane was carrying 180 passengers at the time. Some described being “badly shaken” in the otherwise regular journey.
  • No passengers were harmed during the incident, but emergency services were reportedly ready to meet the injured crew members when the aircraft touched down.
  • The outlet notes that a storm front had moved over Mallorca as flight FR4615 came in to land.

Ryanair Addressed The Turbulence In A Statement

A minor setback: A spokesperson for Ryanair released a statement to The Standard confirming what happened.

  • “FR4615 from Vitoria to Palma de Mallorca on 21st September experienced some air turbulence prior to landing,” they reportedly said. “The captain called ahead for medical assistance for two cabin crew, and the aircraft landed normally.”

The Majorca Daily Bulletin claims adverse weather is thought to be a key factor in the incident.

Pulled from service: Poor weather can rock planes mid-flight, but it can also stop them from getting off the ground entirely. Back in June, severe storms forced diversions at multiple airports, including Atlanta.

  • Per Minq, hail and flash floods caused numerous delays at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Delta Airlines revealed that it took 100 planes out of service to inspect them for damage caused by hail.
  • Nearly all affected aircraft were back in service as usual the following day, but a spokesperson for Delta noted “more than 380 system cancellations.” The FAA blamed hail for the mass disruptions, combined with high winds.
