In her final appearance on David Letterman’s “Late Show” Thursday before the longtime host retires, Tina Fey made a bold declaration: It would be the last time she wore a “fancy dress” for a late night talk show appearance.

“It’s almost medical,” she said of what it takes to get into a dress. “I dress up like this out of respect for you, I really do.”
A frequent guest of Letterman’s, Fey quipped:
“What, am I gonna put a dress on for Jimmy [Fallon]? That’s creepy. He’s like my brother. Am I gonna wear special underwear for James Corden? That’s not gonna happen. So the next time you see me I will be playing charades in a slanket.”
So as a final gift to Letterman, she gave him the dress. Yes, the one she was wearing right then. Just…just watch.
Letterman leaves his longtime perch in the Ed Sullivan Theater later this month. The next iteration of the program starts in September with Stephen Colbert at the helm.
