Hidden Hand Signals: The Women’s Funding Network publicised a set of hand signals women can use to alert others to their need for help. The simple signal starts with an open hand with the thumb across the palm, and finishes with the fingers closed over the thumb.
- The signal can be displayed behind the back or hidden from an abuser’s view, making it the perfect way for women to call for help. It leaves to trace, and can easily be disguised. The hand signal has been used in many situations, resulting in the rescue of women from abusive situations.
Everyone should know this signal. Please share.

In a 7-Eleven on Fremont Avenue and Montezuma Avenue in Los Angeles County, someone noticed a woman performing the hand signal. They called 911, and the police responded quickly. On arrival, they noticed the woman standing behind a man they already knew.
Abuser Arrested
The woman, signalling that she was with an abuser, stood beside Glendora resident John Palombi. And so, the police, hoping not to escalate the situation, asked the pair to step outside. Here, they separated the two and began individual questioning.
Felon Flees: When the police were finished questioning, the alleged abuser fled, with police giving chase. They tackled him to the ground and arrested him. It turned out that he not only had an active warrant but was also carrying a stun gun.
According to the police record, the man has multiple convictions. These included violating parole, firearms violations, robbery, drugs, and leading police on a pursuit. The woman, by signaling that he was an abuser, gave him up to the police. Also, he was on supervised release upon his arrest.
He is now being held on no bail.
A Clever Trick to Learn: However, there are numerous signals and signs women can give to others to call for help in the presence of an abuser or dangerous situation. As well as the hand signal are some other tells.
- Asking for an angel shot in a bar has recently become a popular way for women to ask for help. If someone is on a date that’s turned bad, it’s a way to get out of it. In this case, bar staff or security will assist the woman in need.
