Riding a lawnmower comes with its own collection of hazards, but getting hit by a car usually isn’t one of them.

What happened: 51-year-old Jamie Nickerson was enjoying his afternoon, driving his lawnmower, when he was hit and killed by a car. He was rushed to a hospital local to him in Enfield, Connecticut, but it was too late. The damage caused by the Honda Accord was too much, and he lost his life.
- He was transported to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. But, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he lost his life only a few hours later. The driver of the Honda was also injured and is receiving treatment.
An investigation is ongoing as to how such a tragic incident could have occurred.
Family Destraught Over Lawnmower Car Collision
Family remembers: Jamie Nickerson has left behind a family and colleagues who are devastated to learn he lost his life after being his by a car while using his lawnmower. They have released various statements sharing their shock and grief.
- The local mayor who employed Nickerson released a statement after his death. “Jamie was more than a coworker; he was part of the fabric of our community,” he wrote. “He showed up each day with commitment, strength, and a willingness to do the hard work that keeps our town running. His service helped maintain the safety, cleanliness, and beauty of Enfield — often in places and at times unseen — and he took pride in that work.”
His obituary was a heartfelt and honest one, celebrating the life of the man.
- “Jamie was a family man. He was the perfect, caring, and attentive husband and father, who loved his family immensely and always put them first. Just this past June, he and [his wife] Amy renewed their vows in Jamaica, celebrating 20 years of marriage surrounded by love and close friends.”
His unexpected death by car while driving the lawnmower has left behind a wife and children. The two kids will be left fatherless after his death, doing regular household chores.
