They say dress for the job you want, not the job you have, which is why I sit here writing in nothing but thigh-high boots, a feather boa, and nipple tassels. However, a school bus driver in Fairfax County has decided to wear a tuxedo on the first day of school.

Lucas Champion, 33, was about to start his first day back at school. This time, though, he was the Fairfax County Public School District bus driver. He wanted to feel confident, and he wanted to make an impression, so he drove the kids to school on his bus wearing a tuxedo.
- “I was pretty stressed out, you know? It was my first day of school, not as a student,” he explained to NBC. “For some kids, it’s their first time riding a bus at all.”
He wanted to feel comfortable and confident, and he wanted the students to have something to talk about. Seeing a bus driver wearing a tuxedo is a surefire way to help the school kids relax. And, apparently, it worked.
- “So I didn’t get a whole lot of response in the morning, but in the afternoon, I definitely got a lot of response from the kids. Several were saying, ‘Hey, I love the fit.’ ‘Looking sharp, sir.’ ‘Nice suit.’ ‘Why are you wearing that?”
Not The Easiest Outfit
Although wearing a tuxedo to drive a school bus may have seemed like a good idea to begin with, as the day went on, it got harder. It gets hot on those old yellow buses, and a tuxedo is hardly the most breathable of outfits.
- “That was actually heavy on my mind when I was getting ready to do this. I was like, ‘Oh man, I hope I don’t get, if I don’t get oil or cooling [fluid] on my tuxedo. I’d better bring my gloves,” he told People. “So it was like a very big juxtaposition.”
He continued, saying that it was incredibly warm dressed in a tuxedo on a school bus, but it was all worth it. “I was dripping. I had a rag behind me that I was just constantly wiping my head, wiping my brow, all that. But, we gotta suffer for our art.”
