Dating is only expensive if you’re either courting someone shallow or have no imagination. Some of the best dates I’ve ever been on have cost almost nothing, and will stick with me forever. It’s all about thinking up something romantic, original, and with enough space for the two of you to get to know each other. It’s not all about expensive meals and boujie locations.

No More Cheap Dates: The study performed by DatingNews.com revealed that 43.5% of singles were going on fewer dates because they’re too expensive. 35.5% are opting for a coffee or drink over a full meal, also.

  • But love isn’t completely lost. There are 37.2% who are still dating, but opting for cheaper activities. There are plenty of possibilities out there for the impoverished Casanovas.

Due to inflation and stagnant paychecks, people are having to opt for something cheaper and original for their dates. Rather than go out for a meal, people are getting creative.

  • Why not take a nice walk around a local place of beauty? Find a neighborhood event, like a food market or music show. Take them to a meadow at sunset, drink cold wine, and read them poetry like some kind of Jane Austin romantic. Introduce them to one of your hobbies. I’m sure they will love standing in the rain waiting for your favourite train to come past.

Dating isn’t Dead

What it means: Many people, and particularly men, will be put off dating because of the financial expectations associated with it. It transpires that, expensive or not, we still believe that it’s up to the man to arrange and pay for dating.

  • A study by Money reveals that 78% of people questioned still believe that men should pay for first dates. Interestingly, the survey said that it was men who were more adamant that they should be opening up their wallets. Only 72% of women thought it was the way, whereas 85% of men agreed.

For me, the mark of a successful date is one full of conversation and ends with another down the line. That doesn’t have to include an expensive meal or fancy outing. In fact, when someone proposes an original date idea, I’m usually more inclined to say yes to a second. Who knows what they will whip up next?
