What happened: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), BMW of North America issued the recall on September 26, 2025. More than 1000 Toyota Supras manufactured by BMW are also affected.

  • The recall concerns almost 200,000 vehicles from model years 2019-2022. Affected cars reportedly pose a fire risk “while parked or being driven.”
  • NHTSA reveals that the issue involves the vehicle’s engine starter relays, which may corrode. The corroded parts can cause the relay to overheat and short-circuit, leading to a fire.
  • The “park outside recall” recommends that owners park their vehicles outside, away from other cars and buildings, until owners confirm their car is unaffected or have their BMWs remedied.
  • 1469 Toyota Supras manufactured between 2020 and 2022 are also included in the recall.

Which Car Models Are Affected By The Recall?

A phased recall: Per the NHTSA, BMW of North America is recalling the following BMW models:

  • 2019-2022 Z4
  • 2019-2021 330I
  • 2020-2022 X3
  • 2020-2022 X4
  • 2020-2022 530I
  • 2021-2022 430I standard and convertible
  • 2022 230I

The recall notice reveals that BMW will conduct a “phased recall” owing to limited part availability. Notification letters are reportedly being sent out in November, with a follow-up post when parts are ready.

How to check if your vehicle is affected: The NHTSA explains that vehicle owners can enter their registration numbers on their recall page from November 14. Motorists can also enter their VIN numbers on the same site. It remains unclear if any prior incidents triggered the recall.

Another fire hazard recall: Earlier this month, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) posted a recall notice for “Paris Hilton Mini Beauty Fridges.”

  • The commission explained that about 110,000 units are affected. Epoco International, which sells the fridges, is aware of “27 reports of the mini fridge overheating and catching on fire.”
  • Multiple online outlets sold the items, including Amazon.com and Walmart.com. They were also sold at Walmart and Ross from November 2022 to July 2025. CPSC explains that the devices have a faulty electrical switch, which can short-circuit and catch fire.
  • Epoco International has a recall form on its website where owners can check if their fridge is affected.
