For his final broadcast, the California news anchor got emotional and reflected on his 10 years at the station. He also revealed he didn’t have anything else lined up.
San Francisco ABC7 News Anchor Reggie Aqui has left the building. On Tuesday, he bid farewell to his viewers.
“Uh, alright, 10 years is a long time, in dog years that’s like going from a puppy to a senior,” he said. “Had I been good at science, I could’ve been a doctor or a scientist in those 10 years, if this were a 10 year wedding anniversary, I would have a gift of tin of aluminum. This is both my 10 year anniversary and my last day here at ABC7 News.”
News Anchor Breaks Down
Aqui also revealed that he never got the gold or recognition he felt he deserved for his work.
- He said, “What am I proudest of in 10 years? My Murrow Award, if I had one. I don’t. So it’s not industry accolades. And I really can’t pick a particular story or on-air moment either, because I have been on something like 8500 hours of news shows in those 10 years – I’m exhausted just thinking about that.”
- However, he said his proudest moment was “the relationships that I’ve built.”
On social media, the news anchor shared that he didn’t know what the future held for him after this.
- He wrote, “Not sure what’s next, other than a much-deserved nap. What a ride that was.”
When addressing viewers, the news anchor got emotional and broke down, calling viewers his co-anchors.
- “Because you’re always a part of this. Of course, I don’t know all your names. But when I meet you on the street, at the store or in my DMs, you tell me that we make your day just a little bit better, and the news a little easier to swallow. “
- “To quote myself, ‘everything is bad, only it isnt’, and I tried every day to give us all a softer place to land. So, I’m going to take my daily relationships, including with all of you, over an Emmy.’
