What happened: According to a press release by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), investigators arrested 32-year-old Alexander Lewis following several incidents where he allegedly used the stinky spray.

  • Authorities explain that Lewis works at West Florence High School. He allegedly used the spray between August 25 and September 19. The press release describes the object as “an internet-acquired spray designed to imitate fecal odor.”
  • Lewis reportedly activated the spray multiple times, disrupting the school. The Sheriff’s Office claims that some children required medical attention for respiratory issues after inhaling the “foul odor.”

The Mystery Spray Reportedly Caused Thousands Of Dollars In Damage

The FCSO explains that the school incurred expenditures of $55,000. Officials spent the money on inspections and repairing damage to the air conditioning system.

  • Per ABC15, authorities charged Lewis with disturbing schools (non-student) and malicious injury to property with a value of $10,000 or more. The outlet reveals that the teaching assistant is held at Florence County Detention Center and received two separate bonds. One for $8,000 and another for $1,090.
  • The arrest has raised eyebrows among several users on Facebook. In response to the news release, one person wrote, “I hope some of yall take note of how dramatic a kid can be when they want to go home. They got medical attention for fart spray.” Another wrote, “What crime is spraying fart spray?”
  • One user claimed that sprays can contain chemicals that cause irritation. “There are people who are allergic or sensitive to chemicals/odors, not to mention someone who has asthma,” they added.

Another expensive school incident: Florida officers responded to a fire alarm triggered at Friendship Elementary School earlier this month. They found the school media center vandalized in the night.

  • Bodycam footage showed a shattered glass door, tables overturned, and books and stationery on the ground. Police released images of two persons of interest and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
  • The Sheriff’s office posted an update the following day, exclaiming, “Their moms turned them in.” Authorities revealed the suspects were two students aged 12 and 13. They estimate the pair caused at least $50,000 worth of damage.
