Travellers have been told to expect significant delays to their flights if using several airports in the northeast of the United States due to high winds coming in from the Atlantic. The high winds are expected to keep some planes grounded for up to two hours.

Big Blustery: The high winds began pummelling the northeast on Sunday morning. According to forecasts, the huge Nor’Easter is expected to cause significant flooding and winds of up to 60 miles per hour. The extreme weather conditions will possibly continue for several days.

  • As a result, the FAA has released a list of airports expected to experience delays. With the extreme conditions, both incoming and outgoing flights will have to exercise high levels of precaution. I don’t envy anyone coming into land in those conditions. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Affected Airports

The expected delays will come to numerous airports in the Northeast. As the winds roll in from the Atlantic and flooding hits the coast, some areas have been given caution.

Airports from Boston to Philadelphia were given expected delays of up to two hours in some cases. As the winds rolled in, many flights were delayed. However, ground teams did their best to coordinate with stressed pilots to bring everyone down safely.

Ongoing Delays: On Monday, two large northeast airports are still experiencing delays due to the Nor’Easter.

  • Boston’s Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport has seen multiple cancellations and delays. The wind is still pummeling that coast and causing significant problems for incoming and outgoing flights.
  • LaGuardia Airport still has a significant delay warning issued by the FAA. Due to the incoming winds and storms from the North East, passengers are being told to expect at least 131-minute delays to flights.

Both pilots and staff on the ground are working to do what they can. However, when a nasty Nor’Easter decides to blow in, there’s not much the Northeast airports can do but sit and wait for their flights to be safe again.
