Pumpkin Record: Just how heavy? Well it weighs more than some vehicles such as motorcycles or even some brands of smart cars. The whopping pumpkin weighed 1,591 pounds. It easily won the honor of being the heaviest gord to ever come out of Montana.
According to KRTV, insurannce salesman Joe Nigro grew the gord. While insurance is his day job, he parently has a bit of a green thumb. His pumpkin beat the previous record of 1,348 pounds, which was set in 2023. It’s actually just one of several large gords he has grown. Nigro came close to setting the record himself that year, but was just four pounds shy.

Now he’s done it.
- “The first year, 2021, I grew a 950-pound pumpkin, and then I just been chasing that dragon pretty much ever since, just trying to get something bigger,” Nigro told KRTV.
Couple Speaks Out: While it started as a hobby, Nigro’s girlfriend, Sidney Sipe, says that growing the largest ever pumpkin has become an obsession. The plants require a lot of work.
- “We grew this giant pumpkin, and we were like, ‘Wait a minute, if we could do that with almost no preparation, then what can we do with a little bit more?’ It definitely becomes like his baby, our babies, and when it’s gone, it’s a little sad, but also cool,” Sipe told the outlet.
The couple also grew a second pumpkin that weighed 1,247 pounds. For the title, Nigro won $600. He plans to get rid of his gord in style.
- “I’m going to cut a hole in it and take the seeds and dissect it and look at it, and then smash it probably,” Nigro told the outlet.
Maybe he’ll hit the world record one day. That record was 2,749 pounds.
