After the Second World War, there was an excess of munitions to dispose of. In some cases, they were simply thrown out or buried. This has resulted in there being tales of people coming across unexploded munitions around their homes.
Explosive Playing: While in his garden, a 3-year-old boy in Washington came across something unusual. Not knowing what it was, they carelessly continued to dig around the hand grenade. Thankfully, it didn’t trigger, and they were able to completely uncover it.
- Having found something seemingly fun, the 3-year-old ran inside with their discovery. The family was horrified to see their child wielding a hand grenade that could turn everyone in the room into a pink mist.
Carefully placing the grenade down, they called 911, and the bomb squad immediately responded.
Hand Grenade Disposal
The bomb squad rushed to the home to see what the 3-year-old had found buried in their yard. They were able to determine that the hand grenade found by the boy was, in fact, live. They were lucky it hadn’t gone off while it was being dug up.
- The bomb squad, very carefully, carried the live grenade away and disposed of it. According to the report, they took it to a remote area north of Hartline and blew it up.
Lying Dormant: According to the bomb disposal unit, the hand grenade found by the 3-year-old had been there for some time. It had, thankfully, been undisturbed until the child found it. However, they have no idea how it got there in the first place.
It looks like it was the type of hand grenade used in the Second World War. There is a possibility that it was left over from the conflict, undiscovered for tens of years. However, it is unclear how long it had been buried in the family’s garden.
Thankfully, the young man and his family were all unharmed by the live explosive in their yard. Had the boy decided to throw it around, who knows what could have happened?
