It’s safe to say Theo Von isn’t happy. The comedian appeared in a Department of Homeland deportation video without permission. That caused immense backlash and a firestorm of hate against Von online.

What happened: Things got so bad that the federal government offered him “extra security.” Just in case someone decided to make a real threat out of those online jabs.
Ultimately, DHS deleted the video. In the video, a clip of Von said, “Heard you got deported, dude, bye.” Von says that clip was taken out of context and came from a Cameo he had made for someone. He said DHS used the clip without permission.
On his podcast, This Past Weekend, Theo Von says that he’s received a lot of hate from the video.
- “People are sending messages and hateful stuff,” he said. “It just was something they used and put out there and everybody saw, right? So, I’m getting a ton of hateful stuff.”
- “This video goes everywhere and I’m getting a lot of like, ‘Dude, what the f***?’ Just all kinds of s***, right? Like, my phone just blew. I’m like, ‘What the hell?’ It’s just like the last thing I needed, right?” he added.
Theo Von Speaks Out
Von speaks out: According to Von, a government official then contacted him to make things right.
- “I woke up the next morning to a text from a high government official saying, ‘Hey, if you need some extra security in your neighborhood or some extra police cars on patrol, let me know.’ And I’m like, ‘What? What are you talking about? Extra security?'” he said.
- “I don’t even know the code to my Ring camera,” he also joked. “I don’t even know how to log into it. And you’re gonna just put police cars in my neighborhood, what are my neighbors gonna think? Now they’re fearful?”
Von is the son of an immigrant himself. His father emigrated from Nicaragua. Von also said that his dad was proud to come over here and be an American. Although he did attend President Donald Trump‘s inauguration, he hasn’t publicly supported the president’s policies or stance on immigration.
He was likely not happy with the situation.
