Some tragedies are almost too hard to write about. The heartbreaking loss of 40,000 pounds of steak in a semitruck fire has meat lovers all over the country in tears.

The truck, heading down Interstate 44 eastbound in western Phelps County, was involved in an accident at the 174-mile marker. Details are unclear as to how the steak-carrying semitruck caught fire, but the results were clear.
The beautiful smell of cooking meat wafted across the county. As the truck burned, the grilling steak in the semitruck drew in firefighters (and I would like to think hungry folks) in record time. The county’s biggest BBQ was underway.
The truck driver could have turned the event into a profit, selling tickets to people who wanted to get a slice of the meat before it was gone. But, as the inferno burned, the 40,000 lbs of meat quickly turned to char. The only people happy to see it were the folks who get their steaks well done.
Any bystander who lined up with their A1 sauce to tuck into the roadside feast would ultimately be disappointed. Eventually, emergency services got to work and doused the flames on the burning semitruck of 40,000 pounds of steak.
Semitruck Fire One of Many
The comments on the post made by Doolittle Rural Fire Protection about the semitruck steak fire got the folks talking. This was, according to the post, the eighth vehicle fire in three weeks in the district. People are beginning to wonder what’s going on. Eight fires in three weeks is a remarkably high number.
The fire closed off both lanes of the I-44 eastbound, and left commuters stuck for somewhere to go for hours. “They need a flyover bridge for cars from 169-175 to bypass all the wrecks!” one commenter added.
Apparently, there was once a road that would bypass the seemingly cursed interstate road. “It would have been nice if they would have left an old bridge into Arlington and the old road,” another added.
The recent semitruck fire was only steak, thankfully, causing no more nearby damage than delays and a wonderful smell.
