A group of Denver residents has begun showing their displeasure at a derelict building in their neighbourhood by making it markedly worse.

Nobody is more ‘Street Proud’ than Americans. They even go so far as to set up their own microgovernments, labeled HOAs, to enforce fines and laws on people for things like overgrown grass and visible trash cans. A derelict building on a street has sent neighbors into a tizzy.
Derelict in Denver: 7th Avenue Parkway is considered, by the residents, to be a beautiful and historic area. They are proud of their homes and the condition they keep their little slice of America in. The homes are kept in check, and neighbourhood pride is usually high. But, there is an eyesore developing on the street.
- Due to ongoing regulation disputes and planning permissions, 2725 East 7th Avenue is like a broken tooth in a mouth of pearly whites. The home has been sitting empty for six years. In that time, it has slowly been falling into disrepair. It is surrounded by fencing, and the windows are boarded up. Local residents are brought to wailing grief every time they have to lay eyes on it.
Knock it Down: Denver residents have already filed a civil lawsuit in protest of the derelict building. They want it either knocked down or handed over to a third party. But it’s unlikely to go through. As the woman who owns it points out, she’s been trying to renovate for years. However, she’s tangled up in legal issues. What’s a woman to do?
Poop Protest
So, the residents, frothing at their collective mouths, have taken to defacing the property further. Rather than come together and maybe, I don’t know, surround the place with plants, or cover the fencing with community art, they are throwing poop at the building.
- I don’t know who thought that covering a derelict building with poop would improve it, but it’s probably the same kind of person who would start a HOA.
Stinky Solution: The smart Denver neighbourhood residents have decided that throwing their bagged-up dog poop onto the property will help fix their derelict house problem. Everyone knows legal struggles speed up when poop is involved.
