Murray’s son, Luke, is an assistant coach at Xavier, and his father couldn’t me more proud. People reported that the 66-year-old has attended every tournament game thus far and has sparked superstition in some fans who believe that the funnyman is their lucky charm. Sports Illustrated uploaded a clip of Murray tousling the hair of the elderly nun who makes sure Xavier players are making the grades.

The media caught up with Murray after the game to talk about the victory. The star joked, “It was like a platoon movie…where a different guy comes in and saves everyone’s bacon.” He even seemed to be near tears as he said, “It was great to see them win.”

Murray is a long time sports fan. When the Chicago Cubs broke their 108-year dry spell, he was spotted in various states of ecstasy. He even popped up at the White House in a Cubs fleece. Of course, he’s also something of a golf fanatic, and stories of him trooping around golf courses in an oversized bucket hat are legendary.
