An undercover cop entered the bathroom of Flavor Frenzy in Addison and noticed something was amiss. They had received an anonymous tip that there was a fake wall-mounted electrical outlet in the bathroom of the ice cream shop.
On closer inspection, the cop noticed what looked like a small lens embedded in the wall in the store’s bathroom. It was located in one of the receptacles and positioned to capture angles of the ice cream store bathroom on camera.
With a search warrant in hand, the police returned and pulled out the fake wall outlet. They did, in fact, find a camera, which had been used to record the bathroom. It was believed that the hidden recording device had been there for years.
Police suspected that 58-year-old Buffalo Grove man, Steven Weisberg, had been using the hidden camera to watch people in the bathroom of his ice cream shop. He was able to watch and record using his phone and laptop.
Ice Cream Peeping Tom Suspect Caught Cold-Handed
The ice cream shop owner allegedly figured that he was about to have his hidden bathroom camera found. In an attempt to hide evidence, he allegedly deleted the videos stored on his phone. According to prosecutors, 11 videos were found in the deleted section of his phone. He had forgotten to clear the folder.
However, they were recovered, and there were six people identified in the footage. One of them was 16; as a result, a pedophilia charge will be added to the case. The video obtained by the police shows the young woman trying on different ice cream shop t-shirts on the hidden camera. According to her, he had asked her to try them on for a promotion.
Since the arrest, four more teens have come forward claiming he had asked them to model t-shirts. He had also asked them not to wear a bra, claiming he didn’t want a visible line in the pictures. The ice cream shop employees were unaware of the hidden camera in the bathroom.
As a result, the owner is facing charges of child pornography and unauthorized recording.
